Weʼve raised £2,120 to Help support Bangor Mum's campaign to get equal access to cancer treatment in NI as rest of UK for herself and others in her position

Funded on Thursday, 28th April 2016

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Melanie Kennedy is a Mum of two living in Bangor Co Down. She is living with cancer and her treatment options are limited now....however in other parts of the UK she would have access to less harsh drugs and possibly other life prolonging treatment. It is a cancer lottery and she has set up Facebook page, NI Cancer Advocacy Movement to fight this injustice.

I am fundraising to help support her campaign, from phone bills to transport, flyers, legal fees to help get this off the ground.

Here is an extract from her Belfast Live article...

"We have a voice and we need to use it and I would like anyone who feels the same way to contact me and offer any support they can.

“Unfortunately anyone diagnosed with cancer in Northern Ireland will not have the same access to drugs that are widely available in mainland UK.

    “This needs changed now.

“If I lived in England I could access three more drugs like the one I’m currently on that are much less toxic than chemotherapy and but because I live in Northern Ireland that’s not possible.

“My only choice is to go back on very harsh chemotherapy of which there are only two options left for me in Northern Ireland, and after they stop working I will be transferred to palliative care to die. Our government is allowing this to happen because they cannot get their house in order.

“It’s ridiculously unfair but unfortunately this applies to all cancers in Northern Ireland and is not only heartbreaking for patients and their families but for the medical professionals who deal with cancer in this country."

Please donate whatever you can to help Melanie and others like her and get this unfair system changed. It could affect any of us in future and Melanie needs help and support for her inspirational campaign now. Like and share her Facebook page, NI Cancer Advocacy Movement, write to your MLA, leave a message of support....thank you ♥♥
