As many people are aware the Bacup Royal Court Theatre closed in May 2015 with major financial problems due to the previous management.
The theatre has been in existence since 1893 and we are proud of its heritage.
After 6 months of hard work a new committee of volunteers,managed to re-open the theatre with the support and backing of the local community and businesses, and produced one of the most successful pantomines for years.The original gas heating system was replaced 4 years ago with a totally inadequate electrical system leaving the auditorium very cold.Whilst the general public have been very understanding this year, the future of the theatre depends on an effective heating system being in place.We have had the current situation assessed and have been advised that the most cost effective way forward is to replace the gas boilers at a cost of £20,000.
We are looking for donations from businesses and individuals to raise this target to get the heating system replaced.
The heating system is the vital next step in the survival of the theatre, both in protecting the fabric of the building from damp,and providing a comfortable environment for the groups that currently use the building and the future audiences.
Hopefully the people who supported us in our efforts to re-open the theatre, including nearly 1000 people who signed our petition, can find it in their hearts to donate even a small amount to this cause to enable us to move forward with our aims, and provide a warm and comfortable theatre for when they next pay a visit.
The theatre is the only venue of its size in Rossendale and we have the opportunity to create a true legacy for East Lancashire.
