    Story

    Hello!

Crocus Fields is a short breaks unit for young people with learning and/or physical disabilities in Nottingham City Centre. We provide overnight short breaks to give families a break and help young people with disabilities socialise outside of the school setting. We try to offer young people different experiences and help them enjoy themselves as much as possible during their time with us. And they have a ball!

Last year, after consulting with some of the young people, we decided that we would like to install a sensory pod to the building. A sensory pod is a mobile sensory room. It looks like this: www.sensorypod.co.uk. This will be a top quality rescource not just for those who come to Crocus Fields but to the whole disabled community of Nottingham. It will be open for booking accross the city.

This will make an astronomical difference to the lives of those who use it. It will be a space for siblings to enjoy quality time together and an area for young people to relax and escape from daily life. It will enhance communication between peers and provide an invaluable resource for Nottingham.

The pod offers young people an alternative environment for them to relax and learn in. Fully equipped with a huge range of settings, and it will help our young people travel to outer space, dive in the worlds deepest oceans and fly through the night sky. During sensory learning sessions lighting changes, smell alters and it can be adapted to each young persons likes and desires. It is fully accessible to all young people including those who use wheelchairs.

Unfortunately, the pod and it's installation cost a grand total of £84000 minus VAT. After VAT is deducted and we take into account funds already secured, we are looking to raise £65000.

If you or anyone you know would like to donate towards this project we would be extremely grateful.

      Update from the Page owner

We would like to thank everyone who has donated monies towards this venture. You have made a massive difference to our fundraising attempts. We have made some great progress over the last few weeks and were pleased to tell you all that we have had positive meetings with a charity (who for now cant be named) who are interested in making a sizeable donation towards the project. If we are succesful in this then we will only be left with a small amount to raise. We have been blown away from the publics generosity and kindness. Thank you!

On the 25th September Emma Eckhardt and Leigh Barlow will be joining our own Ashley Saunders in completing the Robin Hood Half Marathon. Neither of them have run a half marathon before, mostly its been jogging for pleasure, so have had to put in some actual training! A massive thank you must go to Emma and Leigh, neither of whom have any link to Crocus Fields. They work in the council and heard about our quest to raise funds for the pod and got in touch to say they wanted to help raise funds. And cheers to our very own Ashley Saunders.

On the 2nd September Richard Petrie, Paul Walton, Jack Knight and Peter Corkhill will be taking part in the sundowner half iron man distance triathlon. This will entail a 1.9k swim, a 90k bike ride and a half marathon. They are hoping to raise the profile of our crowdfunding site and a little bit of cash towards the cause.
