    Story

Alice and Emily will be taking part in the 100m Toddler Dash and the One Mile Race at the Great Scottish Run on Saturday 1st October 2016.

    Our Story -
Alice and Emily had to be delivered six weeks prematurely by emergency caesarean section at Wishaw General Hospital on 18th March 2013 due to suffering from Acute Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (a rare condition which only affects identical twin pregnancies and results in abnormal blood flow to both babies).

Emily suffered from a lack of oxygen to her brain and was severely anaemic - she needed an urgent blood transfusion at birth.

Alice had polycythemia (too many red blood cells) and required an immediate partial exchange transfusion to prevent a stroke or heart attack.

Both girls initially had assistance with their breathing, were hypoglycaemic and also required phototherapy to treat their jaundice.

The amazing doctors and nurses saved Alice and Emily’s lives and cared for them during the 31 days they spent in the Neonatal Unit. The staff provided fantastic support to all the family during an extremely difficult and stressful time.

After numerous tests, MRI scans, ultrasound scans and follow up hospital appointments both girls were finally given the all clear and were discharged by the Consultant Neonatologist, Paediatric Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy in November 2014.

We are extremely lucky and grateful that they have no lasting health issues and are beautiful, happy, healthy girls.

Race packs arrived today 👍👍 The girls have been out running practising for the race. They are really excited and in their own words are going to "run fast to buy a fish tank bed (incubator) for the wee sick babies" Thanks to all who have donated. We are extremely grateful and are overwhelmed by everyone's generosity x
