9 years agoThank you for your kindness and generosity. A lot has changed since this fund was set up and the situation in Calais is hugely improved. To cut a very long story short the French government has finally acknowledged the existence of the camp in Calais and is taking action to solve the humanitarian crisis there. There are still serious reservations as to how the people there are being treated. Those who were intending to bring equipment or build structures to last in the camp are being asked to review their plans in light of these new developments and fundraisers are being urged to consider directing money and volunteer efforts to places like Lesvos where the situation is desperate. I have therefore decided to direct the money there and am currently researching possible beneficiaries. I will also be volunteering there for 2 weeks in December and will be driving via Calais where I will drop a caravan and then continue driving with donations of tents clothing and blankets.

9 years agoThanks all for your donations. We still have a long way to go. There is a big problem with rainwater sitting on the ground and flooding tents, toilets are overflowing, one report said that there was sewage pooling around a water tap. Please keep sharing. Thanks and best wishes

I have been teaching Sociology for the last 14 years. Prior to this I lived as a Traveller, mostly on squatted land with no sanitation or running water. I am hoping to use my experience of construction and off grid living to contribute to improving life in the camp
