On the weekend of May 20th - 22nd 2016 I walked the entire length of the Ridgeway National Trail from Overton Hill in Wiltshire to Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire - a distance of 87 miles (138km) to raise funds for my scout troop.

We are the 2nd Abingdon Sea Scouts, a Royal Navy Recognised troop of 10 - 14 year old young people with a passion for scouting and messing about on the water.

Our aim is to provide our young people with opportunities and challenges that many wouldn't get elsewhere. In the four years they are with us we see them grow in confidence, develop new life-skills and, most importantly, have a great time!

We are part of the world-wide family of scouting and we want to be able to give our scouts the opportunity to experience scouting in another country. We have links through our leadership team with a scout troop in Castelfranco Veneto near Venice, Italy, and we are planning our annual camp there for October this year. We plan to meet with other scouts, take part in some adventurous activities in and around Venice and to conduct a study into the effect that the tourist industry is having on Venice itself. These will all contribute to the scouts' World Challenge Award badge.

Scouts will be raising funds themselves throughout the Summer to help us achieve our overall target of £3,000.
