I'm James Bentley, my great Grandad also James Bentley was one of 8 men from Hull that volunteered to fight fascism in the Spanish civil war. Sadly he never returned.

Me and my dad, also James Bentley, have decided to walk 40 miles each to raise money for a new and lasting monument to the unsung hero's of this war. Permission has been granted to place a monument in the city centre, however this needs to be funded by the families and many supporters of this great cause.

This year celebrates 80 years since the Spanish civil war started, hence the 40 miles each, one mile for every year. The civil war started on the 18th of July 1936, this is also my birthday, although I was born in 1981. I cannot think of a better way to spend my birthday, then on a 40 mile hike with my dad, raising money for my great Grandad and his fellow comrades.

Please dig deep and remember the fallen who fought for our freedom.
