    Story

In the last few weeks, the news has been full of terrible accounts of racially motivated hate crimes.

It saddens me that this most recent attack has happened on my doorstep. On Thursday, 6th July, the Banaszak family from Plymouth suffered an arson attack at their home with a threatening letter telling them to go back to their 'own country'. The full BBC report can be accessed below.

So many of us would like to show our support for our friends and neighbours and to take a stand against these crimes.

To this end, This page has been set up to support this family in repairing the damage to their home and in replacing their lost possessions. We cannot undo this terrible crime, but we can show this family that they are welcome in Devon, that we care and that they are not alone.

For anyone concerned regarding whether this page is genuine, please feel free to contact me directly. I am a general practitioner working in devon. My GMC registration number is 6167256. All funds raised by this page will be donated to the Banaszak family to use as they see fit.

Wow, the response to this page has been incredible and just shows how much good will there is in the world. Thanks so much to everyone who has donated or shared this page. I don't know the likely cost of the damage and the response has been so wonderful and so rapid I have decided to increase the total to £5000 to allow people to continue to show their support. Hopefully this will not only cover the cost of what was lost but also leave some spare for them to do something nice as a family. Thank you :)

Of course the Banaszak family are welcome here. So sorry they've been intimidated and attacked. Hope this neighbourly support gives them confidence to rebuild their life in lovely Plymouth.

Best Wishes to the Banaszak family. I hope those cretinous perpetrators can be named & shamed & exposed as such nationwide.

My father came to England during WW2 as a member of the Polish army and stayed for the rest of his life. I am sorry this has happened to you and I hope you continue to make your home here.
