Story
When journeying through Nottinghamshire in February 2016, I came across the vandalised gravestone memorial to Private George Wallace Jackson, who had been killed in action in France in March 1918. It had been erected by his grieving mother, Charlotte Padley, probably with the £24 war gratuity she received on his behalf.

In this era of WW1 commemoration, it is only fitting that Private Jackson's memory is accorded the respect due. The quote for restoration is around £1500.
In order to support the fundraising, I am attempting to run 60000 metres in 6 hours, at an ultramarathon event starting at 7.30am on 1st July 2016 exactly 100 years to the minute the Battle of the Somme began. This represents one metre for every man killed or injured on 1st July 1916. This is at the Somme Centenary ultra event at Samphire Hoe, Dover, overlooking the channel towards France.
