70% of people with a disability want to do more sport but 69% are prevented from participating due to lack of awareness or availability of opportunities (English Federation of Disability Sport, 2013).
Sport can provide new ways and opportunities to interact with other people, focusing their attentions on their abilities rather than their impairments.
Participation in active sport by people with limiting disabilities is lower than in non-disabled people (DCMS ‘Taking Part’ Survey).
