Story
In April 2016, my brother Finlay was diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of cancer, namely Fibrolamellar Heptacellular Carcinoma. This particular type of liver cancer affects 200 people every year, in the ENTIRE world. So my brother is one in 40 million, a statistic that is impossible to get your head around, let alone the reality and injustice that the most innocent and kind soul of a 14 year old child has been unfortunate enough to be one of those 200 people out of 7,400,000,000 people.
In light of this life changing situation, we have set ourselves a goal, to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in February 2017. This is a personal challenge that will be dedicated to my brother Finlay. But more importantly we aim to raise awareness for cancer as a whole and also the extremely rare form that Finlay has encountered.
We are not asking for huge donations. But if everyone who sees this donates a couple of pounds and they pass it on to people they know, then by the theory of the Six Degrees of Separation, the reach of this post and the cause can reach the entire world. In theory.
To thank everyone who supports us, we are going to produce a banner with every person's name on and this banner will be raised at the summit, 5895m above sea level. By donating to the cause, you will also become part of our journey, not just to the top of Kilimanjaro, but in raising awareness and help fund these incredible charities. Cancer affects or will affect every single one of us either directly or through people we know and these charities need all the support they can get.
If anyone has any questions please don’t hesitate to ask, you can contact us via email at smithjp22@gmail.com , johnat75home@mac.com, deanfox248@btinternet.com or joef646@hotmail.co.uk

8 years agoHAPPY BIRTHDAY FINLAY!!! It was Finlay's 15th birthday on Saturday 13th August and he is all partied out now. After a lovely meal with the family on Saturday night, he finally experienced his first steak and lobster which he'd been after for months! And today Finlay fed the penguins and monkeys at Colchester Zoo, an experience that Finlay said he will never forget. Happy birthday from all the team Finlay, and I'm sure everyone who has supported us so far will join us in wishing this amazing boy a very happy birthday x
