Story
The residents of Kings Tamerton for many years grew up with a large area of wasteland left over from the demolition of an old prefabricated housing estate. Many generations used this area as a playground and an area to carry out sports and pastimes. in approximately 1992 the site was developed into an actual field and was signposted as a community playing field, it was a dual purpose facility with the then Tamarside School using the area during school hours. For many years the community and school co existed using the field how it was intended.
Unfortunately since the introduction of Marine Academy the school has tried and failed to develop the area under lease, its planning application rejected by the secretary of state after many protests from the residents. Why should we lose our only flat, safe and local bit of green field. Our supporters do not in principle object to co existence and we understand that a thriving school is key to the development of the area but this can not be allowed to be at the cost of the community. We suspect that we have not seen the last of further attempts to develop the area.
In an attempt to resolve this issue once and for all we have lodged a village green application. We now face a lengthy and expensive legal battle to try to secure the area for the use of the residents....and yes we believe with the school...... co existence, community sharing and harmony.
We joined The Open Spaces Society as The Kings Tamerton Community Village Green Action Group Membeship Number 74536 and thank them for the invaluable advice.........now we need your help. There are two major objectors to our cause of course Marine Academy and Plymouth City Council who indicate the community have a right to use the area but do not use it 'As Of Right', this is our legal battle.
PLEASE DONATE HELP US WIN SO OUR CHILDREN CAN PLAY SAFE AND OUR RESIDENTS CAN CONTINUE TO CARRY OUT THEIR SPORTS AND PASTIMES ON A LOCAL FIELD.
Every little helps
