Weʼve raised £3,260 to provide relief to refugees in dire need in Lesvos

    London, United Kingdom
Funded on Wednesday, 16th December 2015

    Story

The small Aegean Island of Lesvos is the entry point for 60% of Syrian refugees fleeing to Europe. It's normally home to around 85,000 people but more than 100,000 refugees landed there in October alone. Thousands of desperate people continue to arrive daily and need assistance. Some don’t survive the sea crossing. The Islanders themselves have asked for help - funding and volunteers - to cope with the humanitarian crisis on their shores.

      Update from the Page owner

Hello! Firstly, thank you so much for your support! It's not me personally saying thanks, but rather the desperate people arriving on the beaches of Lesvos who want you to know how much your support is appreciated. I've written a blog post about how we have used/are using the money we raised together. You can read it here: https://therovingaye.wordpress.com/2016/02/04/your-contribution-making-a-difference-2/ The headline is that we are going to use this money to support an upgrading of logistics and warehousing on Lesvos. Improving the efficiency of the distribution of donated aid is so important, and we can make a difference here. Your money will be used to part-fund the start-up of a 'goods in' warehouse where all international donations are sorted and prepared for distribution to the refugees on the beaches or in the camps. Please read about it here https://therovingaye.wordpress.com/2016/02/04/your-contribution-making-a-difference-2/

Spending spare weekends volunteering in Calais with a group of friends supporting refugees, motivated us to do more. My brother Ciaran and I have decided to drive to Lesvos to take humanitarian aid and volunteer with the relief effort. www.therovingaye.wordpress.com
