Natural resource exploitation and extraction in Turkana, Kenya is a fast-growing industry, with adverse results for communities living in or around project affected areas. Projects managed by various players involved in natural resource exploitation and extraction often impact an array of human rights, the environment, and social and economic development, with long-term and sometimes irreversible effects on people living in and around project-affected areas.
Let Us Talk is training communities in and around these impacted areas on how best to manage and minimise the impact the oil and gas industry has on them and their livelihoods.
One of our programs is to train community members as citizen journalists as well as social and environmental impact monitors.
The citizen journalists will report on issues that affect communities and the social and environmental impact monitors will assist in gathering and reporting data about the oil and gas industry's impact on the community.
The information that is reported will link stakeholders in the community to have a stronger voice against the companies and projects that impact them during the extraction of natural resources.
