Story
On 12 June 2016 pupils from Year 6 at Hazlegrove Prep School will take part in a sponsored walk over the Quantock Hills to raise money for two very deserving charities, one of which is the amazing Magazine Wharf Kids, established by Brigadier Charlie Herbert (a parent at Hazlegrove) while he was deployed to Sierra Leone as part of the international response to the ebola crisis that gripped West Africa in 2014-2015. The charity funds the education of children affected by ebola - many of whom lost one or both parents, or a sibling, and some of whom are ebola survivors themselves. The cost of educating a child is not high - about £120 per year - but beyond the means of many ordinary people, especially those from Magazine Wharf, a notably impoverished part of Freetown which was hit particularly badly by ebola. From humble beginnings the charity now supports 46 children and a number of their adult carers.

Charlie Herbert
Brigadier Charlie Herbert set up Magazine Wharf Kids in mid-2015 while commanding the UK military forces in Sierra Leone deployed to help defeat the dreadful outbreak of ebola. Struck by the number of children dreadfully affected by ebola he now works to fund their education.
