    Story

St Marie's RC Church was built in 1847 and the tower and spire were later added in 1872.
It is one of Rugby’s great landmarks, but a survey of the spire and tower of St Marie’s Catholic Church in Dunchurch Road has made it clear various repairs are necessary.
Restoration work is now needed for the upkeep of the spire to the sum of £100,000.

The four life-size stone angels at the base of the spire are attached to the main part with steel rods, which are suffering from corrosion.
The figures have wooden wings which are showing signs of wet rot.
Their fixings need replacing as do the lightning conductors on both sides of the spire.

Parish Priest, Father Tom Thomas, said: “St Marie’s is a beautiful and inspiring part of Rugby’s Christian Heritage. This should be the final significant work on the exterior of the church building.

The tower and Spire is not only an architectural legacy but a heritage that needs to be enjoyed by future generations of Rugby.
