Thatswhatss.com is an expose of the issues girls are facing today. It is a website that mixes documentary photography of real girls and interviews about what it is like to be a young girl. The imagery celebrates girls that would otherwise not be celebrated in the media, they are your girls next door. The website provides a safe place for young girls to voice their opinions away from internet trolls and judgement from the people around them, anonymity is always available. Reading each others stories and opinions helps girls connect and feel less alone.

Everyone knows young girls are insecure and innadequate. This is the norm and people expect nothing less. Society has normalised this to the point where the girls thinks it is their fault.

The impact of the internet is uncharted territory. I believe that the only people that can tell us what it is like to be a young girl is the girls themselves. Every girl is asked how we can make things better and we need their help and insight to make changes that will work. Companies and organisations whose activities impact young girls will have a unique insight into how they can better approach and communicate with them. These are not faceless figures or percentages but an in depth look into the world of a young girl.

I started the project with an instagram account, @thatswhatss. Girls are really reacting to this project and have expressed how much they need something like this. "This account means everything to me" (a recent comment on an instagram post)

The response from the girls and press has been overwhelming but without further funds I am struggling. I have managed to fund the project so far out of my own savings. The money will help towards:

Shoots (average £300 - cost of creative director, photographer, travel around UK, film/film processing)
Website development: £2000
