Am I brave to shave? Why lose a head of hair? Seems appropriate for a head! I am the headteacher of Blackfriars Academy, a fantastic special school for young people aged between 11 and 19. Despite their many and varied difficulties, the students constantly amaze us with their resilience and hard work. They have recently undertaken a massive fund raising appeal of their own, to raise money for cancer research. I want to do my bit - support their cause, cancer research, but also raise money for them. As a school , we are constantly having to cut back on the extras that make school such a wonderful place to be and local charities are finding it harder to support us. Help me to raise the money to provide those special things such as a trip to London to see live theatre - for many of our families, disability access issues would make this impossible; provide funding to bring in musicians and artists to work with our children who need 24 hour medical care and money to fund the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (18 students currently undertaking bronze and silver). Half of the money raised will go to Cancer Research and half to Blackfriars Academy.
