My mum has been on dialysis at the Borders General Hospital for just over three years. Prior to starting dialysis she became quite ill and struggled with daily life as well as work.

Since starting dialysis my mums health has improved so much and she still manages to hold down a job caring for others.

It was brought to our attention in the dialysis unit at the Borders General Hospital that dialysis patient on the Isle of Bute need to travel from The Isle of Bute to Greenock (8.6 miles) each way 3 days a week. After dialysis my mum feels quite dizzy and drained and the last place she would want to be is on a ferry.

My mum has decided to swim 8.6 miles (552 lengths) which is the equivalent of the one way ferry journey for Bute dialysis patients. This challenge will be done over a 10 week period due to work and dialysis commitments.
