Weʼre raising £10,000 to Save Banbury North Signal Box from Demolition in August 2016!

Story

We are trying to raise £60,000. This Just Giving page is running in parallel to emailed pledges from individuals and businesses already totaling a further £5,000

Banbury North Signal Box was built by the Great Western Railway in 1899, when Banbury became a railway junction of national importance. Once one of six signal boxes, it will shortly be the last. It is due for redundancy and certain demolition this August.

Save Banbury North Signal Box (a.k.a. “Project Crossover”) is raising funds to adopt the signal box, to preserve it in full working condition, and to use it an educational resource aimed at railway enthusiasts, the general public and primary school groups learning about railways and the dangers of railway trespass.

Having managed to scale almost all of the tasks given us by Network Rail (building survey, maintenance schedule, detailed fencing and access design, heads of terms, liability and buildings insurance, etc), we still have an urgent need to show Network Rail that we have financial resources to assume responsibility for this beautifully maintained and complete signal box.

It may be that we can buy more time, but currently Network Rail are saying that if we cannot demonstrate £60,000 in cash, pledges, sponsorship and financial guarantees by May 9th, the box will be demolished during the 9-day ‘Banbury Blockade’ in late July / early August this year. We are still tens of thousands short of our target.

By donating though this Just Giving Crowd-Funding site, you can rest assured that any donations will be returned to you, in full, if the signal box is demolished.

Time is very short. Please give generously!
