    Story

My work colleague, Beatrix, has recently had a specially adapted tricycle stolen. She does not drive and it was the only way she could take her son Theo, who has Down's Syndrome, to hospital appointments.

We are appealing for help to get her back on the road and buy a new specialised tricycle.

Here is the story from the Hereford Times (12/4/16):

THIEVES have stolen a trike which a single mum used to take her six-year-old son to hospital appointments.

Beatrix Veal's son, Theo, has a lung condition called bronchiectasis after he contracted pneumonia twice as a baby.

Theo, who has Down's syndrome, previously rode on the back of her bicycle as Ms Veal does not drive.

But as he approached his sixth birthday last August she decided to make an investment and buy the bakfiets.Nl cargo trike.

Ms Veal said: "He was getting too big to ride on the back of my bike.

"He is not the best at walking and gets tired quite quickly.

"We are also back and forth to the hospital."

Ms Veal, who also has a nine-year-old daughter called Esme, noticed on March 15 that the trike, which was locked up in her garden in Oak Avenue in Hereford, had been stolen.

She said: "It was a big thing for me. I felt a bit guilty buying it but I used it so much.

"I used to do my weekly shop and I took the kids everywhere in it.

"Things are taking twice as long trying to go from a to b."

She hoped the bike would last until Theo was an adult.

Her insurance covers the first £500 but she will have to save up to be able to afford to buy another one.

Ms Veal cycles to work at St Michael's Hospice in Bartestree where she is a complementary therapy coordinator.

Can you help us raise enough money to help Beatrix buy a new specialised tricycle?

Any funds in excess of the target will be donated directly to St Michael's Hospice Therapy Services.

    Thank you.
