    Story

As you probably know, Adam, my Dad, went to the Masai Mara in Kenya when he was 18 with Project Trust to teach English. Living there, Dad was humbled by the generosity and kindness of the people he met. He stayed in contact with one of his students, Raphael. In later years they wrote regularly and Adam and my sister Maddie visited Raphael in 2008. Adam was planning another visit with Raffie - Raphael's namesake - and the two were in regular correspondence up until Adam's diagnosis and death.

As well as having a good friendship, Adam supported Raphael's various dependants and charity projects In times of hardship. Adam had a parallel family in Kenya - there is a Renatte, an Adam, an Adam Innocent, a Patrick, a Gill, and a Kilgarriff. Adam settled a small regular income on Raphael's village Sindo - there were orphans to support, hospital treatments to pay for, and Dad paid for the construction and maintenance of a school. Adam supported younger members of the clan through education, and twice provided money for Kenyan Adam to hire a lorry, drive to Nairobi to buy sacks of grain when famine struck. He also supported Patrick through the police academy and one of his last actions exactly this time last year was to address the purchase of a necessary kit list. Adam was keenly aware of the disparity in wealth in our Western life style and the Kenyans, and supported the purchase of things we take for granted like medicine, education, food and housing through direct donations to Raphael. One of his concerns in dying was how to continue to support the Kenyans after his death, so now to mark the anniversary of his death and the gift of love he has left behind, we, his family, thought that it would be nice to create a page where his friends and family can donate money to if they choose - and later this year we will work out how to set up an Education focused Foundation for more sustained support.
