I joined Tandem Trekkers around a year ago & since then they have offered me endless opportunities, one of which was attending a velodrome session in Manchester where I met Jeannie. In July we will be riding from London to Paris in aid of Tandem Trekkers over a period of 4 days!

I am 19 yrs old, currently completing my A levels at Brighouse High School Sixth Form & Jeannie is my tandem pilot.
I was born with very limited vision & no option of corrective surgery. Throughout my life, I was able to see 2 metres in front of me with my right eye & 1 metre with my left. However, 3 yrs ago I started to lose my vision due to several eye conditions, this was a rapid & unexpected deterioration. As a result I now have no useful vision & only light perception. I have found it incredibly difficult to adapt & come to terms with the sudden loss of sight.

Throughout my childhood I was able to ride solo alongside my older sister, Bethany however, due to sight loss this is no longer possible. In year 11 I was bought a tandem to tryout in PE lessons around the school premises. This was fantastic, I was able to ride again, but also be part of a team. I then started to cycle longer rides which lead to me cycling the Coast to Coast (Way Of The Roses) last summer with Goalball UK.
Tandem Trekkers are based in Huddersfield at Leeds road sports complex. This cycling group actively encourage visually impaired novice, or experienced cyclists to further enhance their skills & increase their confidence in the saddle within a safe, traffic free environment with the ability to progress on to more challenging routes.
This charity is very unique as people suffering sight loss may find it very daunting to ride a bike. Tandem Trekkers provides these people with the opportunity to ride & train at different cycle trails, track sessions & exciting activities such as, attending a velodrome session; all rides vary in distances to suit all abilities.
