Weʼve raised £1,075 to keep Cornwall Deaf Community Centre open. The club is in danger of having to close it's doors to many isolated deaf adults and children.

    Story

Cornwall Deaf Centre provides an invaluable service to all deaf/hearing impaired adults/children & their families in Cornwall. We provide regular social evenings, children's groups, youth group, deaf church, lunch clubs, sporting events and British Sign Language classes.

We are the only Centre for deaf/hearing impaired in Cornwall and we work hard, with a strong and dedicated committee, to continue fundraising and holding events to ensure the Centre remains open.

That has become more challenging, with cuts to grants, and in this financial climate, it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet the club's ongoing costs.

Many deaf people are isolated in their own local community, and even within their own families. The centre provides a place where deaf adults and children can relax and communicate with ease with their peers.

Our Youth Group play a large roll in the Centre, mentoring the younger deaf children who in years to come will be the future Committee. We all work as a team and our social events are proof that whatever your age, whether you are deaf, hearing impaired or hearing, we all have one common goal and that is to support Cornwall Deaf Centre.

If you are in a position to help us financially, we would be extremely grateful.

Thank you for taking the time to read about our crowdfunding cause.

      Update from the Page owner

Well...target achieved, thanks to your generosity! Thank you. Barclays Bank agreed to donate £1000 too, if the Crowdfunding achieved my thousand pounds target. So the future of Cornwall Deaf Centre is secure...at least for another year. I will support the Deaf committee and members with organising more fundraising events, in order to secure it's future in the long term. Thanks again everyone. Carleen x

Hi supporters. The West Briton newspaper have kindly agreed to feature the Deaf Centre's plight in their paper next week. Due to this, I have asked for the deadline for donations to be extended by a week. Hopefully publicity will lead to more donations - fingers crossed!

We got off to a great start - thank you to those of you that have donated. Things have slowed a little, so if you haven't already donated / shared, please consider doing so - if you can. 24 days left to raise £820! Quite a challenge...but with your help...I'm sure we can do it!

I first attending Cornwall Deaf Centre at the age of 15, when I started learning sign language. The deaf centre is a welcoming inclusive club, vital to the often isolated members of the deaf community. Please 'dig deep', and give what you can. Thank you, Carleen
