Story
Several thousand fearful refugees continue to arrive on the island every day, in unseaworthy boats with little more than their clothes and yet there are still no adequate state reception facilities. Families with newborn and young children, people with disabilities, those who are sick or tragically bereaved on their dangerous journeys and homeless need this small, dedicated centre. A remarkable place of relative calm, safety and care for some of the most vulnerable refugees is under great strain

9 years agoDear All, This page is closed (but I am starting another as the need is still unmet). My very warmest thanks to each of you who donated in support of the refugees and volunteers. Just Giving told me that not every pledge was collected so there's a shortfall. There were pledges of £5165.00 but only £4865.00 was collected - banks decline payments for various reasons - please would you find out what went wrong and donate on my new page which will be up and running very soon. Please, everyone, spread the word about the new page: crowdfunding.justgiving.com/catriona-jarvis4 I am going to Lesbos soon. I will be teaching and playing with the children - there are twenty at the centre now. Learning and playing together provides some stability and comfort in a very insecure world. In the meantime thank you once again. Those staying at the refugee centre will begin to feel the benefit of your help very shortly as I should receive the funds by the end of next week. Thank you Catriona

9 years agoDespite the time that has passed since this fundraising page was opened, the situation for refugees on Lesbos has grown worse and there are still no proper reception facilities. Thank you so much to all who have donated so far. Please spread the word to help meet the goal in time

9 years agoThank you very much to all who have generously donated so far - please keep spreading the word. There were 27,276 new registrations of people arriving between 15 - 20 October alone. It has not stopped raining for the past few days. People are wet, cold, hungry, homeless, in fear.

9 years agoAt least eleven people have drowned off Lesbos recently, most of them children. Their families are left in situations that it is almost impossible for most of us to imagine. Many survivors will be supported by volunteers who will be receiving your donations. Do spread the word.

Thanks for organising this. So much of the focus in the UK seems to be solely on Calais.
