    Polymicrogyria Family Support

Polymicrogyria Family Support received a fantastic 109 nominations, coming first with 52%. Kidney Research UK came second with 12.5% and Cancer Research UK third with 3%. Thank you to those who nominated.

Polymicrogyria Family Support is a charity which aims to raise awareness and to provide support to improve the lives of families affected by Polymicrogyria in the UK and Ireland. Polymicrogyria is a rare brain malformation. The word Polymicrogyria (PMG) - can be broken down into 3 parts -'Poly' meaning many, 'micro' meaning very small, and 'gyria' meaning folds in the brain. So put simply it means, 'Too many very small folds in the brain'. By having too many small folds, the brain is unable to process information it receives like a normally formed brain.

Polymicrogyria can affect the whole brain or part of it. The signs and symptoms associated with it depend on how much of the brain, and which particular brain regions, are affected. Polymicrogyria is very rare and as all cases are very different, Doctors are unable to give a prognosis on what lies ahead for adults and Children who have Polymicrogyria in the future.
