    Story

This summer I will be travelling to Zambia as part of the IDEALS Zambia charity project for 6 weeks. (International Development Through Excellence Leaders and Sports)

In Zambia I will be working in local schools and communities delivering PE lessons, community sports programmes, coaching netball and delivering health, wellbeing and HIV/AIDs awareness workshops that are specifically aimed for the needs of the children in the deprived areas of the City’s compounds.

I have experienced first hand the power of sport through the way it unites and inspires, being used as a tool for development. This project particularly aims its focus on the positive impact that sport can have upon impoverished communities, which are often affected by high levels of unemployment, crime, exclusion and many health risks, including HIV and AIDS. By encouraging children and young people to attend sessions that I will be running and coaching throughout my time in Zambia it is hoped that sport can be used as a medium to develop motivation, life skills, self-efficacy, and help improve the quality of their lives by providing children with vital education and understanding in areas such as health awareness to further ensure self-reliance.

I have been involved in different fundraising activities and events throughout my final year of University to support this project, such as hosting sport tournaments (football, wheelchair basketball and a swimathon), social events (student bingo nights, cake sales, May Day duck race etc.) I am planning to carry out other personal challenges that I will keep you updated on, in the hope of raising enough money.

If you could please support this fantastic cause, any donations small or large will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
