Weʼve raised £2,845 to buy equipment to treat eye disease in Angola

    Story

Angola has very few eye doctors: 15 for a population of 20 million. One of them, Steve Collins, flies out to treat eye patients in remote areas for 2 weeks every month. He lacks equipment that would enable him to diagnose eye problems with much more precision. A number of fairly basic pieces of kit will help him enormously in his fight against blindness in rural Angola and will help him train his team much better.

      Update from the Page owner

Dear friends! Thank you so much for your generous help! I have just ordered the portable slit lamp, a slightly more suitable model than the one I had in mind first. This one runs on batteries (and hence does not depend on continuous mains for recharging) and has a variable slit height. It costs £3,000 (+ VAT if I can't escape it) so I will have only a slight shortfall to make up. For fundus camera, a very good iPhone adapter is coming on the market soon so I will wait for that. It's only less than 3 weeks before Anja and me are flying out, and still quite a lot of preparations to make. We will get some facebook posts out during and after our trip so watch the space. Now a final and heartfelt THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Chrisjan and Anja Dees, on behalf of Dr Stephen Collins and his patients living in the south of Angola
