Story
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Choir are travelling to New York in February 2016 because we have been asked to perform 'The Rising' at Ground Zero in New York as a tribute to the 343 firefighters who died in the twin towers on 9/11.
'The Rising' has become our choir's signature song. It's a beautiful choral arrangement of the poignant Bruce Springsteen song and tells the story of a New York Firefighter caught in one of the twin towers on 11 September, 2001 as he realises he will not return.

9 years agoTomorrow morning (10th February) the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service choir fly to New York. We'll be visiting the 9/11 Memorial Museum and afterwards going on to 'Ladder 10', the fire station closest to Ground Zero, to meet our New York Fire Department counterparts, offering our friendship and solidarity. On Monday 15th February we are performing Paul Mealor's 'Stabat Mater' in a special celebratory concert at Carnegie Hall, with orchestra and massed choir. The following day, Tuesday 16th, we return to Ground Zero to sing 'The Rising', our tribute to the firefighters who died on September 11, 2001. Thank you so much for helping us to make this trip a reality - we are so honoured to have this opportunity and humbled by your support and generosity in helping us to get there. Dan Selby and all the members of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Choir

I have been a firefighter at Macclesfield for two years, joining our choir shortly after I started. It is a huge honour for me to be able to help serve the people of my community and it will be a great privilege to be able to pay tribute to the NY firefighters who died on 9/11.
