    Story

Following his triumph in Mexico last October where he completed 10 iron distance (2.4m swim, 112m bike, 26.2m run) races in 10 days to become the World Deca Ultra Triathlon Champion in a time of 131:35, Dave Clamp is taking on the challenge of completing 20 iron distance races over 20 days at the Double Deca Championships in August in Switzerland.

Personal Trainer and member of Knutsford Tri Club, 57-year old Dave is well-known for his low-key approach to tackling multiple ultra events. He is an inspiration to aspiring triathletes of all abilities and is an exemplar of what is possible if you have the right mental attitude.

Recent training races include the Liverpool to Manchester 50m Ultra, where he finished 4th; the Manchester Marathon and the 33m Sandstone Trail challenge, where he finished in 5th position, 1st in his age group and set a new M50 course record on 7 May - with a virus!

In January everyone at Knutsford Tri Club was extremely saddened by the death of Clive Reading, one of their most popular and respected members, due to a brain tumour. Dave decided to dedicate his Double Deca challenge to honour Clive’s memory and has the full backing and support of Clive’s family in this venture.

Dave has been Inspired by what Ben Smith of the 401 challenge and Ben Ashworth of Ben’s Bowel Movements have achieved through their marathon endeavours: Whilst seeking help towards the cost of travel, accommodation and support crew for the Double Deca, Dave wants to raise as much money as possible in memory of Clive and proposes to donate 50% of funds to East Cheshire Hospice and Brain Tumour Research.

Dean Jackson, owner of HUUB Design, believes Dave is insane enough to achieve his goal and has generously offered £23.94 discount off any Swim goggles which start at £19.99 + delivery to the first 50 people to pledge a minimum of £20 to Dave’s fund.

Skins Compression has also provided Dave with compression kit which he will be wearing in Switzerland.

Many thanks to everyone who supported Dave in this. The donations page has now closed and raised a massive £3,631 and Dave will be organising cheque presentations to East Cheshire Hospice and Brain Tumour Research in the near future. Dave says "It was an honour to complete the race in memory of Knutsford Tri Club's Clive Reading and thanks once again to everyone who followed the 20 days. We must all do it again sometime :)".

Dave has done it!! After putting in 20 incredibly strong performances over 20 days, he is the Double Deca Ultra Triathlon World Champion. It looks like his overall time will be around 252:21 - more than 23 hours ahead of the next finisher. Truly inspirational.
