Story
The Long Road.
Thanks to the time and dedication of the ENT team at Fife a plan has been drawn up to provide clinical training to nurses and young doctors from Malawi.
In-country visits help to make a difference, however, the long term solution needs to come from forming best practice for care so this can be passed on and form the foundation for building effective ENT services across Malawi.
The plan is to provide one month’s training at Fife for two members of the team in Malawi, the cost of this exercise is around £2,500 per person. To help meet this cost two of the Sheffmed team will endeavour to cycle from Lands End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) and visit many ENT Departments on route to create awareness and raise the funds needed.
Your help and support would be greatly appreciated as these two middle-aged men (Alan and Gary) battle their way north. Please help us to spread the word and raise the funds so that Sarah and Emmanuel can receive much needed training. This is the first step on a long road but I am sure you will agree, a worthwhile journey.
Sheffmed will match fund all monies raised.

8 years agoJoyce is a young girl aged 9, deaf for 2 years from mumps and living in one of the poorest countries on earth, Malawi, home to 15 million people and only one ENT doctor. For two years we have supported the efforts of this small and dedicated unit and together with the wonderful team at Fife and Bradford a plan is underway to increase the care and services in Malawi. In two weeks Alan will ride 1,200 miles from Land’s End to John O’Groats visiting many hospitals to raise awareness and much needed funding. Please support this worthwhile cause.
