Story
On 3rd July, Greg, Gordon, Stewart, Ryan, Paul, Pete and Kevin from the Culcheth Raj Roadsters are attempting one most challenging one day cycle routes in the UK, the Fred Whitton route in the Lake District, to raise money to help send 2 year old Theo Clennon to receive lifesaving Proton beam therapy in Oklahoma.
In March this year Theo experienced changes to his balance and coordination. Within just weeks, following a CT scan, it was found that Theo had a rare brain tumour and needed surgery. Because the tumour was large, deep inside the skull and next to the brain stem, the family received the devastating news that it was inoperable and that Theo only had a few weeks to live.
Thankfully, Mr Connor Mallucci a surgeon at Alder Hey was willing to operate successfully removing 100% of Theo’s stage four tumour. Theo is now cancer free, but without further treatment his cancer will return. Theo is undergoing chemotherapy but due to his age radiotherapy is not an option. Theo needs Proton beam therapy available in Oklahoma, the equipment there can penetrate deep enough into the body to help fight any cancer cells left.
His family needs to raise £160,000!
We’ve known the family for many years and have been touched by Theo’s story and want to help.
The Culcheth team will ride 112 miles, climbing 12,000 feet (over 40% of the height of Everest) and all six of the major Lakeland passes. Ranked alongside some of Europe’s most challenging one day bike rides, the 112 mile route starts in Ambleside, almost immediately climbs Kirkstone Pass, then Honister, Newlands and Whinlatter and at the 100 mile mark there's the Hardknott and Wrynose passes, where the road ramps to over 30% in parts. It's steep and the lengths of the gradients as well as the road surfaces and possible weather conditions, make it a challenge not for the faint hearted.
Please help Theo and support us by giving what you can, remember to opt for gift aid if possible. Thank you!

I'm married to Greg who has been cycling with his local club, The Culcheth Raj Roadsters, for the past few years. I have known Theo's family for a number of years and I have been really touched by their story. We hope this cycling challenge is able to help in Theo's recovery.
