Story
Lower Bevendean is one of the most deprived areas of Brighton and Hove. On the national deprivation index it's ranked as the 7000th most deprived area out of 32,000 areas.
Friends of Farm Green began after 2 mothers formed a petition asking Brighton and Hove Council to review and renovate Farm Green Park in Bevendean.
More than 770 signatures were collected and it was presented to a full council meeting on 24 March 2016.
The petition was started after the council said it could not afford to replace broken play equipment in the playground.
Since the petition began the wheel swing and baby swings have been repaired and parts have been ordered for the roundabout.
The balance beam has still not been improved or the flooring which is still hazardous and mouldy.
More work is needed to enhance it to make it useable for various ages as there isn’t enough equipment for toddlers or older kids
The park is essential for healthy constructive play for parents and children.
Our Aims
· Improve, develop and maintain the children’s park equipment and infrastructure and the surrounding green area at the existing Farm Green play park in Lower Bevendean.
· Increase the potential of the space to offer a multi-use space that is inclusive of older children, teenagers and adults as well as the smaller children the park is currently designed for.
· Promote and improve the health and wellbeing of the community at large through increased provision within the play park and surrounding Farm Green – from gym equipment to benches.
· Attract more people and increase the intergenerational use and enjoyment of the space to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive social space where other events and activities can take place.
· To improve and increase access to free activities for low-income families.
. To educate local residents about the history and culture of Farm Green Park and Lower Bevendean.
