Islington Giving was launched in September 2010 in response to the report ‘Invisible Islington’, commissioned by Cripplegate Foundation in November 2008. The impact of poverty in the borough was starkly seen in this report which showed the isolation of and issues blighting our poorest residents and made a compelling call for action.

In just three years, Islington Giving established an effective track record of delivery and significant impact. Islington residents can now join activities when and where they want, especially at weekends when most public and community organisations are closed. By supporting Islington Giving, you can be a part of this success and be confident that your money, time or skills are making a difference. We are here to stay and over the next three years we have great ambitions. Much has been done to date but, together, we can and must achieve so much more.

Our aim is to make community investment easier, more effective and more rewarding for business members; ensuring efforts are focused where they can make a meaningful difference.

Since 2012, almost 1,000 business volunteers have been placed into a wide range of roles including one-off and ongoing opportunities providing business support in areas such as HR, marketing, legal and business planning, mentoring roles, acting as new board members, and 1,308 have taken part in team challenges.

This support has been delivered to 124 community, voluntary and not-for-profit organisations across the borough. In addition, through the education programme, 399 pupils from eight institutions have benefited from mentoring relationships.

As a result of its piloted employment work, the BIG Alliance has also helped 148 people into work.
