A recent report in the Lancet Medical Journal found that over 800,000 children could be prevented from dying worldwide if more women breastfed. It also revealed that fewer than 1% of babies were breastfed up to their first birthday in the UK.

The process prevents mothers from some cancers and increases IQ in the infant, also reducing the risk of many-many life long conditions such as obesity, diabetes, bowel disorders.

We have the luxury of choice in the developing world (& so we should), however, many women suffer the immense pain of watching their babies die as a result of an inability to feed effectively.

Whatever your circumstance, be it in the UK where there is a 24hr help-line and hundreds of support groups, or abroad in a refugee camp with no money or ability to sterilise, the need for support and information to achieve effective feeding remains vital.

You are helping the mother but also providing that child with a life long gift.

Breastfeeding can sometimes be seamless, but often it's a massive, heartbreaking challenge and this charity does incredible work both at home and around the world to help overcome this and improve the lives of thousands.
