Story
Junaid was born with a life threatening heart condition called critical aortic stenosis. At a few hours old he was transfered to Birmingham Children's Hospital Intensive Care Unit- where he underwent an 8 hour long open heart surgery. He recovered well until 4 weeks after when he went into heart failure. He was very poorly and was told he needed another open heart surgery within a few hours. After another 8 hours in surgery he came back from theatre very poorly and had a cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated and was told that he may not survive the night. Time passed and he got stronger but could not get him to breath on his own. We were told that if he stood a chance at life he needed to grow bigger and have a massive open heart surgery called the ross kono procedure. We agreed he needed to be given that chance so he remained on life support for 12 weeks. He went for his final surgery 25/5/11 and had 50/50 odds of survival. 8 hours later he came back fighting but in a good way. Things went well until 5/12/11 when he had pneumonia which caused a cardiac arrest. His heart stopped output for 30 minutes. Without the doctors, surgeons and nurses on picu my little man would not be here now. I am doing the Derby big fun run along with Junaid's sister Yasmine and of course Junaid on 20th August to raise much needed funds for the intensive care unit. It costs thousands of pounds per bed per day to provide care to children like junaid. Junaid spent nearly 7 months in intensive care. If we reach the £250 target the hospital will use the money raised to help with much needed specialist equipment, bedding, tea and coffee for the parents room etc. They also place a plaque with junaids name on it in the corridoor of intensive care and after 18 months they send it to Junaid to keep. We cannot thank them enough for the care they took of Junaid. They go above and beyond. They have allowed me to watch my little man grow from a baby into a handsome, kind young man who is so happy ❤️

I'm a proud mum to 5 year old Junaid and 11 year old Yasmine. Life changed when Junaid was born. For the first year of his life I virtually lived in Birmingham childrens hospital with him, watching him fight for his life and that is what he did.
