Story
I have lived in the community of Dorchester Court for 21 years. I live with my partner and 2 children; both born in the flat. In 2013 we were asked for a rent increase of £268 a month. We negotiated it down to £168. The following year we were issued with a repossession notice. It was not clear what sort of tenancy we had; the landlords did not provide us with the documents. Court proceedings were issued and we defended ourselves against a barrister and solicitor. We lost and have £7400 costs.

9 years agoA huge thank you to all who have supported us. We are still hanging on in there but only because of the huge amount of support we have received. We are working in conjunction with Generation Rent on a further petition addressed to the government asking them to acknowledge the huge increase in number of private renters and to review the Housing Act and limit rent increases. The best case scenario is that 38 degrees will agree to back it. We are also working on a press release and will post on Facebook if and when something comes out. The landlords in their wisdom have applied to bypass the County Court bailiffs and go straight for the High Court bailiffs which is a quicker process with no notice. I have been in contact with Shelter who were horrified at our situation and have referred me to their own lawyers so I will at last be able speak with someone. We have been involved with various groups and I feel inspired to try and set up a self build community group. Thank you, thank you HJNJ

9 years agoLast post,2 hours left. Landlords have applied to bypass the county court bailiffs and go straight for the hight court. Today I rang shelter to recalculate our possibility for legal aid. Our household income is £13 over the limit. Landlords are 150th on Times Rich list.Tx to all

9 years agoI walked 10 miles along the Thames today with my wonderful class; they got themselves into some proper sticky muddy situations on the banks of the low tide Thames. It was an adventure and I want to thank them for walking to help my family's situation.

9 years agoThank you all. I am walking the Thames on Tuesday. Please share our story and help raise awareness of unfair evictions so we can work to try and scrap the section 21 law, which gives tenants 2 months notice to move, introduce rent caps and clearer negotiations with landlords.

I am a teacher in London. Jason, my partner is a gardener. Our two teenage children are in local schools. I am planning to walk the Thames with my class from Mortlake to Teddington to raise money to pay our costs and to keep campaigning for the plight of tenants to be improved.
