Weʼve raised £10,120 to build a computer lab for a school in rural Ghana

- Funded on Monday, 18th January 2016

Story
Imagine you are 15 years old, and you’ve never used a computer before. You’ve never even seen one before. And yet three times a year, you are forced to take an exam on them, to answer questions about hardware, software, and just generally how to use a computer. In rural Ghana this is how it works. Schools are poorly funded and have few or no computers despite having compulsory exams on them. This Campaign’s aim is to build a computer lab accessible for up to 2000 children in local communities.

8 years agoDear all, As of the closing between you all you donated just over £10,000. The one thing I can think of to say is just: Thank you. Although we had a very ambitious target and have not hit it, what we have done has blown my mind! Based upon more accurate calculations we are not as far off as it would seem - only £2,500 not £6,400. On that note I have a few last things to say. 1st, If anyone donated above £25 or £50, and wishes for me to send them a thank you card in person please send me your postal address at b.a.n.michaud@gmail.com. This is a deal I made and I intend to keep it. 2nd, We have started work already. We hope to get as far as possible before the rain starts in March. Updates will be via my blog/facebook. 3rd, I will be buying all 42 computers from Computers4Africa ASAP now we have finished the project. Updates as above. 4th, If anyone wants to help with the next steps of fund raising please get in contact. With thanks from me and all the Yabraso community, Ben

8 years agoWith one day left to go I just wanted to say thank you for all the support. Yes, we are only just half way to our official target but i will be continuing to fund raise and having looked at the costs in detail our actual target is less than this. Let's do this!

8 years agoWow, nearly at £5,000! I'm so happy! Thank you everyone for your continued donations over the Holidays. We've started work on the foundations now - about 1000 concrete blocks have been made and the foundations have been dug. We will start laying the bricks soon.

My name is Ben, I have been volunteering in a school in rural Ghana for the last two months now teaching Physics and ICT. So far it has been tough but incredibly rewarding. I have a blog about this project in more detail and what else I'm doing at theseaissalty.wordpress.com
