I will be travelling to Zambia as part of the IDEALS charity with other selected coaches for 6 weeks. I will be based in one school and community to deliver daily PE lessons specifically planned out for this environment. I will also be heavily involved in delivering health, well-being and HIV/AIDs awareness as this is still a relevant issue within Africa. Sport has been proven to enrich lives in such communities leaving it an opportunity i couldn't miss out on.
This will be a fantastic personal experience to have a first hand insight into how powerful sport is in terms of a development tool. It is also directly linked to my university work around coaching allowing it to be brought to life. Having the chance to pass on knowledge and give something other than 'materialistic' luxuries such as the feeling of belonging in a team is personally the underlying drive for this project work.
My 6 week trip will take place in June 2016 where I hope to document my time and keep everyone back in the UK updated as regularly as possible. This trip will also provide essential grounding for university dissertation work based around coaching within a variety of cultures and genders. Once the target is raised this will allow for the correct resources to be obtained to make sure our time as coaches in Africa can be best utilised.
