Story
On Saturday 23rd July 2016 Stephen Johnson passed away. Stephen was only 14 years old and he had a spinal Injury. Anyone who met Stephen instantly fell in love with his smile, his character and his cheekiness. Stephen was left paralysed when he was only 6 after been hit by a car. His strength got him through that as he learnt to cope with life in a wheelchair. At the age of 10 Stephen visited a fun day that was set up by a new wheelchair basketball club called the Tees Valley Titans. With no fear he jumped into one of the sports chairs and you could see he was a natural at the sport of Wheelchair Basketball. He joined the club and started compete at national Junior level, At such a young age teams from around the country began to recognise his talent. He hated to lose and always apologised to his coaches if his team lost. That was just Stephen, if he wasn't practicing at club sessions, he was practicing at home. At the 2015 National junior championship's he was named national player of the year voted by each region and also attended Great Britain camps at only the age of 13. Stephen was almost certain to be a superstar at the sport and all he dreamt about was representing GB at the Paralympics one day. He became ill. He became ill on 15th July with an infection that attacked his body which caused his heart to stop. Which left Stephen in a coma. The spirit of the kid's fighting spirit is that he wouldn't let go and fought all week but sadly for us all this was one battle he couldn't overcome and he passed away on the Saturday morning with his Mam and Dad Allison and Stephen by his side and his Titans Shirt on his chest. We have all been deprived by this loss of a young man who in inspired everyone who met him and we will all miss him so much. Please look over us Stephen and Inspire us from a far. We will never forget you x
