    Story

Six years ago in 2010 our son Joe was diagnosed with a malignant Ependymoma brain tumour at his brain stem. He had surgery which fully removed it and follow up Proton Therapy(a form of focal radiotherapy) and has had six wonderful years free from cancer! Unfortunatly in March this year with chest pain and sudden balance problems we were given the news that his Ependymoma tumour had returned at his brain stem and down his spine. He had emergency surgery to remove most of the two bigger tumours which had caused compression in his spine. As joe always does he made an amazing recovery even though it was extremely tough for him. He then had to go through three months of intense chemotherapy followed immediately by five weeks of cranio spinal radiotherapy which was gruelling and the symtoms were at there worst up to two months after. Although it was extremely difficult for him he fights to embrace life through every oppertunity he can looking for and enjoying thrills and fun with family and friends. He never stops amazing us! We are so proud of him Joe has spent a lot of time in the children's Oncology ward at the Sick Kids Edinburgh. The Doctors, Nurses and staff are fantastic at their jobs and the new Sick Kids is opening in the not too far future. He is such a bright 11 year old and we asked him what charity we should raise money for and his answer was simple... A room or space for 8-13year olds on the ward. There is a Teenage Cancer Trust room and a very young play room but nowhere that accommodates his pre teenage age group. He has amazing ideas for 'gaming chairs', ' chefs and comedians' coming in to get kids up and out their beds when possible. We would really love your support in helping Joe! He's such an inspiration!💗 thank you!! xxxxx
