    Story

My name is Lewis Richards and I work for the Haringey Tuition Service. I work with a variety of children with educational needs that prevent them from attending main stream education.

In January 2016 I met a young man called Santi who had been involved in an horrific accident, resulting in him being paralysed from the neck down. He now requires 24 hour care and the use of an electric wheelchair that he is able to control with the small amount of movement he has in his right hand.

Santi moved to the uk with his father, when he was 13, to pursue a promising career in football. He played for the academy team at Brentford FC until his accident in the summer of 2015.

The injuries he incurred, due to falling from a piece of park apparatus, could never have been anticipated and has resulted in life changing injuries. Santi was in a coma for a week and had suffered a c4 complete break. When he came out of the coma the reality that faced him was profound. He faced a future in a wheelchair.

In the last two months Santi has defied doctors expectations by regaining greater movement in his arms. As a a result of this improvement, his current wheelchair will suppress further development of his arms. Whilst he till requires electronic controls he also needs to be able to manipulate the chair manually for progress to continue.

This is where we need your help. Santi needs a new wheelchair. The approximate cost of the new chair is £8,600.

Santi is a happy, articulate and intelligent young man - bubbly and buoyant dispite adversity. He's not letting his disability hold him back. He is thinking about a future in the Paralympics.

He has transformed my life with his positivity. He is a true inspiration.

      Update from the Page owner

I just want to say a massive thank you to all of you for your generosity and support over the last few weeks. I can't believe how kind you've all been. We didn't quite hit the target I hoped for, but its not over yet. I went to visit Santi on Friday and we have a few more ideas up our sleeves to raise the rest of the money needed, to get him his new chair. Will keep you all posted... Thanks again, Lewis
