Story
The City of Cambridge Brass Band has realised that there is a real need for a youth band to enthuse and train young brass players from Cambridgeshire. In fact the band's constitution states that its object is "to advance the education of the general public in the art and science of British Brass Band music through the provision of public band concerts and recitals and training in brass music skills.
Although there are plenty of opportunities for young brass players to develop their playing and musicianship in and around Cambridge (e.g. the Britten Sinfonia Academy, Junior Prime Brass and various County Youth Ensembles), we will focus specifically on the art and science of British brass band music.
The City of Cambridge Brass Band is able to offer expert coaching and training to young brass players in the Cambridge area giving them an exciting opportunity to develop their skills. Sectional coaches from the senior band have a wealth of professional playing and teaching experience at the highest level. This includes instrumental teachers currently teaching at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the Saffron Centre for Young Musicians (a division of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama) and various independent schools within Cambridge, a former head of Brass at the Royal College of Music and highly experienced classroom music teachers. Professional playing experience, which can be passed onto the youngsters, includes major London orchestra, West End and national touring shows, His Majesty's Sagbutts and Cornetts, Top of the Pops and even recording with the Beatles.
The City of Cambridge Brass Band is desperate to enthuse and inspire young brass players in the art and science of British brass band music to ensure that the music and local brass bands prosper. This can only be achieved however with funding to cover the set up and initial running costs.
Please give generously. Many thanks.
