Weʼve raised £640 to implement the'm'projekt: a menstrual health management programme in rural South Africa

Funded on Monday, 16th May 2016

    Story

Ngcizela, is a rural community in the Eastern Cape. The vast majority of the girls who attend the local secondary school are living in poverty and most do not have access to hygienic materials for their menstrual health management. This results in infections, a level of embarrassment and also time missed off school.

Research organisations in South Africa have reported that 20% of schooling time for girls in rural South Africa was lost through menstrual related absenteeism; impacting negatively on girls’ education, health and future job prospects.

the'm'projekt is a pilot programme that will introduce menstrual cups to girls aged 13-19 that attend the local secondary school. A menstrual cup is a reusable, eco-friendly and sustainable menstrual product that lasts for up to 10 years. The introduction of menstrual cups will be used as a platform to deliver workshops on reproductive and menstrual health.

All of the money raised will go towards the success of the project.

Please see the below link for more information on menstrual cups.

Hey All ... the terrible twins, aka Gayle and Steph, have come back to teach in Ngcizela; a community that we love. As well as helping with literacy, we will also be implementing the'm'projekt: a programme to improve menstrual health management through the use of menstrual cups.
