Story
The flash flood in South Pool on Thursday 16 June has devastated The Millbrook Inn and this is an appeal to local people and businesses to help get the pub back in business.
Previous flood damage means there is no insurance cover, and the speed of the flash flood took everyone by surprise. The sheer volume of water was phenomenal, unbelievable, with thunder, hail and rain. We are looking to raise £10,000 to help replace stock, furniture and kitchen equipment to help new owners Charlie and Tess Baker and their team get back in business.

8 years agoThis is a reminder of what happened on Thursday 16th June 2016. Thunderclouds hung over the South Pool area and emptied onto the village. Within 20 minutes the stream had risen, breached its banks and was sweeping through homes and businesses. The Millbrook Inn was one of those premises flooded. New owners, Charlie and Tess were devastated, having only taken over the pub 3 weeks before. This Crowdfunding page has been set up to help them with the rising costs of repair but also to offer messages of support from us all: We're behind you both!

8 years agoCharlie and Tess are still assessing the full extent of the damage to the equipment in the pub and repairs that will need to be made. Much electrical equipment was waterlogged in the flood is currently being repaired and tested for electrical safety. Some will need replacing at great expense. The walls, floor and exterior paving will all need to be repaired. Flood defences also need to be strengthened to prevent a similar thing happening to The Millbrook Inn. We have 19 days to go and £880 to raise before hitting the £10K target. Nearly there!

8 years agoThe kitchen is fully operational. The bar is fully stocked. The pub looks great. Charlie is looking at ways of defending the pub from further flooding. We are hoping to reach our £10K target to help him in this effort. We're nearly there...but we need more Facebook shares to do this. Thank you to all who have donated so far. You're amazing!
