Story
We, the 'Coastbusters' consisting of Ann Chance, Jane Drapkin, Maurice Wheeler and myself Neil Sammes are attempting a cross channel team relay swim tomorrow (17/7/16).
Whilst the training has been, somewhat unusual, with plenty of cold water swimming in seas, rivers and lakes ranging in temperature from 10 degrees and when we have been lucky slightly above, the journey has made me realise how fortunate we are to have learnt to swim to even be able to contemplate taking on this challenge.
My local club not only supports competitive swimming but also has an active learn to swim programme that in the main is run by volunteers. Having put my own children through this and seen the countless others I just thought it would be good if I, with the help of my team mates, could put a little something back into the club.
Of course if it would help to encourage you to make donations I promise to post a few pictures of me in swim cap, googles, costume and goose fat, unless that is you would prefer to donate more for me not to post these images!!!

Our boat is called the Sea Satin.

8 years agoRight now that my arms have started to work again I thought I should let you all know that with the help of my team mates the Coastbusters landed in France in a rather pleasing time of 13 hours and 54 minutes. Despite a few near misses in respect of the Jelly fish and a bit more of a swell on the second half the team were magnificent. Now I know I promised Goose fat and all that but thought that a photo of the team celebrating on dry land in France would be preferable!!! A truly memorable experience (once in a lifetime!!)
