Weʼve raised £1,015 to Phoenix Painting Project

    Stony Stratford, United Kingdom
Funded on Wednesday, 17th August 2016

    Story

There was a devastating fire in Stony Stratford High Street on 1st May 2016. Two beautiful old buildings were destroyed, and several others were damaged.
Whilst these buildings are being made safe and rebuilt, there will be a 16metre long wooden hoarding surrounding the damaged area. This will be in place for up to two years.
The Phoenix Painting Project has designed a piece of artwork to cover the hoarding. Illustrated by Jonny Boatfield, it will chronicle processions and parades along Stony Stratford High Street (old Watling Street).
We want the whole town to take possession of this artwork by coming to help colour in this picture and add their personal touch.
A beautiful picture that shows local heritage will be attractive to visitors and residents and fun to contribute to. Helpers of any age or ability are hugely welcome.
The boards will be painted at York House Centre on London Road, Stony Stratford then attached to the hoardings on the High Street.
We need help to make this happen. Already the Stony Stratford Business Association has offered support and local businesses like D&S Associates have offered to help erect our painted boards for us and local businesses are offering expertise and donations!
We also need funds to pay the costs arising; the artist, rooms hire charges, purchase of ply board, paints, brushes, varnish etc.
This is going to be such a fabulous community project, please do get on board and contribute in the best way to suit you!

A huge 'THANK YOU' and round of grateful applause to everyone who has contributed to this magnificent project! This page is now closed for donations although we are only half way through fundraising. We still urgently need to raise at least a further £1000, so if you or any of your friends or local businesses would like to contribute, please leave envelopes of cash marked 'Phoenix Project' at Odells Hardware on the High Street or make cheques out to Stony Stratford Business Association and write 'Phoenix Project' on the back. Kate xx

Five days of solid drawing and painting and moving about of 8 x 4ft boards, cake munching, tea drinking and chatter led by Jonny Boatfield and organised by Kate Davies has resulted in a magnificent 16 metre artwork depicting an exotic procession through Stony Stratford over the centuries. There's beauty, there's humour, there's sadness & there's life. Now all we need to do is raise the money to pay the hard workers that organised the event!

Ten of the 13 artboards have now been illustrated by Jonny, seven of which are being painted by some delightful people. Everyone who works on it - either drawing up ideas or painting finds it very therapeutic and relaxing. The chatter of Stony stories is fascinating and the bringing of cake is essential fuel! Although we are continuing with this project, we have a shortfall of £1000, we need more funds please! If you could encourage your friends, their businesses and families to contribute, it would make all the difference. Thank you!

Don't forget - painting parties start on Monday 8th at York House on London Road! Although we haven't reached our funding target - we are going ahead with the artwork anyway and just hope some last minute generous benefactors will help swell the coffers. We are going to purchase the materials tomorrow (Friday) and this page page will come down in a couple of days, so all last minute donations will be greatly appreciated!
