Weʼve raised £485 to donate to Piggies in Need

Funded on Tuesday, 23rd August 2016

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

On Sunday 21st August, Suzy Ellis and Kathryn Lacey will be completing the south west Tough Mudder half course in aid of Piggies in Need. It is a personal challenge for each of us, and we want to try and raise a bit of money alongside it to help a cause we have daily contact with, small animal rescues who do not receive large funding support, relying heavily on the support from individuals to donate food and other necessities and help out when they can.

Our cause has a specific aim in mind - a recent rescue of 325 guinea pigs from one location has been handled by small rescues across the UK, and they are currently full to the rafters with guinea pigs, many of whom are in poor health due to their previous living conditions. Some sadly did not make it. Most of the females were pregnant - in the weeks following the rescue a lot have miscarried or died along with their babies before any were born. However, thanks to the efforts of all rescues involved over 100 babies have survived! This has significantly increased the numbers to care for - food, bedding, medication and all other supplies are being used up at a phenomenal rate, and many rescues are now closing their doors to any coming in due to all availabl space being taken up. Vet bills are difficult to afford but essential for those who need it. One operation can cost hundreds of pounds.

Piggies in Need was set up partially in response to this large rescue event. It acts as a central fund holder and single place for all donations to come in for this particular event so funds can be distrbuted to those needing it to care for these piggies.

Please help us out by supporting Piggies in Need and donating today!

      Update from the Page owner

A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to us - Suzy Ellis and I successfully completed the south west half Tough Mudder on Sunday and earned our headbands in process along with many bruises... However, the most important thing we achieved was to raise an impressive £485 for guinea pig rescues across the UK still overwhelmed by the large scale rescue of what ended up being 460 guinea pigs. Your donations will go straight to supporting them with food, bedding, vet bills and anything else they need. THANK YOU :) :) :)

Rescues are nearly at the end of the 10 weeks pregnancy watch since the 325 piggies left their appalling conditions in their former home. Since then, around 140 babies have been born. These are only the ones who survived - despite the best care of all rescues involved nearly 33% of babies were miscarried or died, and some mums also didn't make it. Were it not for the dedication and round the clock care from our rescues, so many more would not have survived. Thank you to everyone donating - it will help those piggies most in need.
