Story
2016 sees the 125th anniversary of the opening of our park as "a garden for the gardenless of London" and we are asking you to buy a plant for the Park, not only to help us celebrate but also to help secure its future.
We are partnering with all six primary schools in our locality to encourage children to visit the Park regularly and support their own public space by giving them the opportunity to get out there, plant and become involved.
This project will give children the opportunity to plant sunflower beds, where they can watch the plants grow to full maturity and to also help design a commemorative plant circle, which will remain in the park for years to come. Each child will be given a plant to bring to the park as part of a celebratory event on Saturday 17th September. We will need 400 plants to form the circle.
We will also be asking local volunteers and community groups to come along and help to set up a plant nursery, where we can recycle plants and even sell them to raise funds, replant and restore the flower beds and borders and improve the parterres and shrubbery.
Parks are a non-statutory service and their budgets are now highly vulnerable. Increasing competition for council funding means that the Park faces an uncertain future and there is a move by the local authority towards more reliance upon our local community to care for it. Our aim is to increase awareness of the Park and what it has to offer and to generate positive attitudes towards the Park and the benefits of engagement with nature and outdoor activity.

Good luck with your appeal, I am not a good example of help in the gardens with Patricia, but hope every little bit helps toward your fund.
