Story
Glorious School, in Uganda’s Bukomansibi District, was set up in February 2016 to provide free education for over 100 underprivileged primary children and their parents living in a rural community. The school is currently operating out of papyrus buildings, which have become insufficient now the rainy season has begun in Uganda.
seeSOAR is made up of a team of architecture and engineering students, with a local knowledge of Uganda and a motivation for putting skills learnt at university to practical use. We aim to design and construct a school building, which is sustainable, flexible and easily replicable. Glorious School is owned by our Ugandan friend and ex-teaching colleague, Jingo James, and with his help, and that of local volunteers and craftspeople, we hope to create an environment in which primary children will have access to an education in comfort.
With an emphasis on sustainable development, seeSOAR hopes to inspire the local community, setting a benchmark for future construction. A rainwater-harvesting system and novel ways to maximise gains in light and ventilation are integral parts of the design, and a separate toilet block will be constructed to raise standards of sanitation. The construction process will involve the local community and seeSOAR will reduce risks by playing an active role on health and safety.
seeSOAR hopes that this will be the beginning of an ongoing involvement with Glorious School; sustainable, architectural and humanitarian.

All funds raised will be channeled directly into the project;
- Locally sourced materials such as bricks, timber, roofing sheets, concrete foundation slab.
- Craftsmanship, should the need to solicit specialist help arise.
With each earth brick costing little over 100 shillings, or 2 pence, a small donation can stretch a long way. We are very excited and would love your support!

Go and buy the compressed brick maker! It's a great idea and makes for much quicker building once the bricks are made. But very hard work!
